Beware of Lies Mixed with Truth

If you are attempting to hide a lie, you put it amongst truth. News agency wanting to build trustworthy reputation will gather all true information they can, so readers learn to trust them. What if they go bad, will they do a 180 so you’d notice right away? I don’t think so. They would only put the lie in where it really matters to them. A sleeper agent activates after building trust.

Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me. Psalm 141:9 (NIV)

I am not against pastors or Christian bloggers mixing Christian faith and politics (it all depends on the nature of the politics involved!) but for the sake of making the point I am going to remain somewhat detached. Let’s just say if your source is an aggressive war going nation or terrorist, you are not being Christian airing their griefs against the Western world. There are things to criticize for sure, but please realize the totalitarians are the least likely to allow those freedoms for their own (we just won’t hear about it as much!)

There is also such a thing as lie by omission. If your holiness movement consists largely of criticizing Christian women’s attire in Church, good for you, but if you at the same time never speak a word against the countries not allowing open Christian worship at all, just who are you helping? Once the Christian child or young person hears of all the bad going on in Church, but never of the dangers and hypocrisy of that other religion, aren’t they in danger of going to a bad place? Who is going to get them out of there?

12 “I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. 13 To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power. Proverbs 8:12-14 (NIV)

Not all lies are based on evil intent. Lot of it is ignorance. I am not advocating us to become each other’s fact checker, but to stay open and curious. To fear the Lord is to hate evil. Let us pray according to Psalms for the Lord to set a guard over our mouths. Do not let the plans of the wicked succeed.

God bless you, Dear Reader.
